The redevelopment of the Zlichov distillery in Smichov between the Strakonicka and Nadrazni streets aims to expose both contemporary and historical architecture, and revitalize the high-profile locality in the downtown area of Prague which has fallen into disrepair and has failed to find a proper use since 2001.
Intertwined with the urban zoning and old buildings of the Smichov district, the project will preserve the original spirits distillery building (the “Varna”), which is under a preservation order, as well as the 164ft octagonal brick chimney from the 19th century; the constructions will be renovated and naturally incorporated into the master plan.
In addition, valuable design and technological elements will be maintained and reinvented in a new context.
Although primarily residential in character, the project features an abundance of public facilities on the ground floor of each building, including gardens, shops, restaurants, cafés, bars and venues for fitness and leisure.
